After the emergency preparedness drill we will be updating troop records, holding Scoutmaster's conferences and conducting Board of Reviews. We will also be packing for the Big Indian weekend camp. The senior scouts will assist with the running of the night.
Merit Badge Blue cards Please hand in any blue cards once they are completed. Summer Camp The early bird payment of summer camp has been made. If you have still to make merit badge choices please do so on Wednesday night. . Medical forms - This is the next important thing to do for camp. Please see the attached camp medical form which must be completed in its entirety and returned prior to camp. This is the only form that is acceptable.Part C must be completed by your son's physician. Please do not forget to return a photocopy of the front and back of your son's medical card at the same time. Kirsten Maher has volunteered to make sure forms are completed accurately.

Big Indian Camp We are going to Big Indian from Friday May 18 to Sunday May-20. We will also provide the campfire entertainment on May 19 for the Framingham Cub Scout pack who are camping at Hopkinton State Park. We need 2 adults to help with the camp as Mr Barrett is out of the country on business. Final names to be submitted on Wednesday night.
Troop Outing We will not be meeting at the VFW on the 23rd May. Instead we have arranged for the Troop to go to Mass Aubudon, 280 Eliot Street, Natick 01760. Scouts will do the amphibian and reptile badge. This will include live animal handling and a night walk. The cost is $5 as the troop will subsidize the other $5. Names must be submitted by Wednesday night. Scouts should be dropped off at Broadmoor no later than 6.20pm and picked up at 8.30pm. Please contact other scouts to car share.
Swimming. We will be going to the YMCA, Framingham to do thepre-camp swimming test, rank advancement and swimming badge partials on Wednesday May 30. Names must be submitted by Wednesday night. More information to follow.

We will be splitting into Groups to work on rank advancements and the senior scouts will assist the younger scouts with rank advancement . Board of Reviews are planned for May 90.

It should be returned at our meeting as soon as possible as classes fill up soon. New Scouts Please hand in your paperwork as soon as possible . Only five of the newScouts have returned their paperwok so far.
Uniform The leaders would like to remind all Scouts that the Troop 23 uniform consists of the shirt, neckerchief, slide and regulation trousers/shorts. New scouts should take a period of time to settle in before obtaining the uniform. Uniform standards among existing Scouts have been slipping hence this reminder. Replacement troop neckerchiefs are available priced $12.

Keith Zontini is on camp staff. So that is 30 Scouts going so far. Please let Mr Barrett know if your name is missing form the list. We would like to see even more of our scouts attend, especially our new ones.
Campout Our next camp is to the Legion cabin at Nobscot on Friday. The cost is $22. We will be meeting at the VFW at 6.30pm. The following have said that they are attending - Abbott, Ahmadi, Donepudi, Donovan x 2, Fedorchak, Henderson, Lee, Lewis, Manivannan, McCarthy x 2, McMillan x2, Narayannan, Perry, Peterson, Prybyla, Stanton, Steele, Stevens, Zontini. Adults attending Haworth x 2, McMillan, Perry, Prybyla, Stanton. This cabin sleeps 36 . There are eight spaces left.
Rhode Island Rock gym The following are signed up for the overnighter on April 28. Climbing - Ahmadi, Donepudi, Henderson, Lin, Narayannan, Perry, Climbing merit badge - Barrett C, Bates, Carter J, Carter T, Cushman, I McCarthy, A McMillan, Newberry, Prybyla, Stevens, Temple. Adults - Barrett, Haworth, Temple. The cost is $35 for those who wish to climb for fun. $45 for those who wish to do the climbing merit badge. Please note the gym has an age restriction that you must be aged at least 12 by January 1, 2012 to do the merit badge. Final numbers will be passed to the Rock Gym on Thursday.
CPR Certification We will be running a CPR certification class for all Scouts who have Star rank and above. The class will cover adult, child and infant CPR as well as conscious and unconscious choking. The use of a defibrillator will also be shown. The troop will subsidize the cost of the course which has also been discounted. The cost has been set at $25. We feel that this is a qualification that our older Scouts should have. The course will take place on April 25 in the VFW starting at 6.30pm. Friends of Scouting This is the time of the year that Council looks for financial support to run scouting. The money is used to run council, programs, council resources and help Scouts, whose financial circumstances dictate otherwise, attend camp. Based on our numbers of Scouts Council would look to us to raise approximately $600. We know a number of you have been sending a donation with your monthly or annual subscriptions. Parents will have received Friends of Scouting letters from council. If you plan on making a donation please arrange for the check made payable to Knox Trail Council to be given to our treasurer, Mary McMillan as soon as possible and she will send one letter on behalf of all the troop members to council..thanks
National Jamboree The National Scouting Jamboree takes place in Virginia in 2013. Our new Scouts will not have heard about this. We have 14 Scouts from the Troop attending at present. There are still a few places left in the Knox Trail contingent, you can obtain more information from www.ktc-bsa.org. Click on 2013 National Jamboree or speak to me. Mr Barrett is going as one of the Scoutmasters from Council. Mr Temple is also going as an ASM.
Community Service Hours We are looking for 3 to 6 scouts from Troop 23 to maintain the Eagle Project built by former Troop 23 Eagle Scout Evan Doktor. It is located on Main Street between John Stones and Lunkers – very close to the train tracks. We are targeting Sunday April 22nd for about 1 – 2 hours of community service. Email rfedorchak@brainshark.com if interested and available. Earth Day 2012 is also Sunday April 22nd. We are looking for as many volunteers as possible to assist in the clean up of a designated area in town. We will meet at Kid’s Spot and will get our assignment then. Blue & Gold Many thanks to all the Scouts who attended the Pack 119 Blue & Gold on Saturday. We would also like to extend a warm welcome to Justin Madison, Timmy Hopper, Ryan Peterson, Peter Sheppard, Nathan Battles, Maky Kotob, Wilson Lin, Thomas Stanton and Timmy Dummer.
